Navigating Change Healthcare's Cybersecurity Challenge

Dear SparkChange Community,

We hope this message finds you well. We are reaching out to provide an update on the recent cyberattack against Change Healthcare that occurred on February 21st, 2024, and its impact on healthcare providers across the industry. The cyberattack prompted Change Healthcare to take swift action by disconnecting its systems, temporarily halting patient care and billing operations. While progress has been made to restore certain functionalities, including eRx for prescription medicines, the restoration of claims and remittances remains a work in progress with uncertain timelines.

SparkChange is committed to helping you navigate through these challenging times. Leveraging our industry experience and technical expertise, we have implemented incident response action plans to address both short-term and long-term needs.

Our Approach

  1. Project Management Resourcing Consuming, aggregating, and synthesizing information from daily updates, payer re-routing lists, service restoration progress, workarounds, and best practice recommendations.

  2. Coordination with Legal and Insurance Representatives Providing context on the impact and response, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the situation. Aid in providing data necessary to support and substantiate potential claims.

  3. Daily Tracking Offering visibility into impacted claims, identifying re-processing opportunities based on payer volume, and defining clear tasks, owners, and deadlines for necessary follow-ups.

  4. Leveraging Vendor Partnerships Engaging directly with clients through existing partnerships with vendors such as Availity and Quadax, exploring available options for claims and remittances.

  5. Long-Term Monitoring Implementing a platform for ongoing monitoring to capture the full impact of the outage. This includes identifying payment delays, changes in denial trends, and other operational insights needed for sustained recovery.
